Entourage of Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT... - Lot 110 - Actéon - Compiègne Enchères
Entourage of Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT (1796-1875) "White Frost at Auvers-Sur-Oise Oil on panel unsigned 30 x 55 cm Provenance : - Estate of Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume (1816-1892) Beyond a career emblematic of an eclectic 19th century, Geoffroy-Dechaume was also the faithful friend of some of the most important artists of the time such as Jean-Baptiste Corot, Honoré Daumier, Charles-François Daubigny, Antoine-Louis Barye... They painted together the same subjects, hence the resemblance of our painting with that of Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT entitled "White frost at Auvers-sur-Oise". This painting could therefore be attributable to Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume himself, to Constant Dutilleux or to this circle of painter friends. Bibliography: Alfred ROBAUT "L'oeuvre de Corot" (volume 1 - page 242) mentioning Corot's stay in Auvers-sur-Oise at his friend Charles-François Daubigny's house in the spring of 1868 with Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume, Auguste Marie Boulard and Honoré Daumier. We thank Mrs Claire LEBEAU (expert of Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT) for her precious collaboration in the attribution of this painting.
