The secretary that we present is directly inspired by some models delivered by Jacob-Desmalter and Co. to the Imperial Furniture Guard. François-Honoré-Georges Jacob known as Jacob-Desmalter (1770- 1841) was one of the most fashionable cabinetmakers from the Directoire to the Restoration. His father, Georges Jacob, a master carpenter, was one of the most important suppliers to the Garde-Meuble of the Crown under the Ancien Régime. Their clientele under the Empire testifies to the success of their workshop : they worked for the Emperor, for the Empress Josephine, and delivered a quantity of furniture and seats for the Tuileries Palace, the castle of La Malmaison, Compiègne and Fontainebleau.
