Pierre Denys PUECH (1854-1942) "La Sirène" Bronze print with a golden brown patina depicting a winged mermaid raising a young boy from the sea to save or lose him. Titled in the centre La Sirène - Signed and located in Rome on the terrace - Mark of the foundryman "F. Barbedienne" On a pedestal in pink brocatelle violet marble (Some slight stains and scratches) Total height: 86.5 cm Pierre-Denys PUECH, sculptor born in Aveyron was a pupil of Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900) and Henri Chapu (1833-1891). In 1881 and 1883, he received the Second Prize of Rome, then in 1884 the Grand Prix of Rome with "Mézence blessé". He was then a resident of the Villa Medici in Rome in 1885 where he presented "La Seine", "La muse d'André Chénier" and "La Sirène". The first version of the latter was exhibited at the Salon of 1890, received a First Class medal and was acquired by the State. Property of the Musée d'Orsay, the success of this work is such that other copies are made in marble as well as bronze versions published by Barbedienne.
